STYLE GURU STYLE: The Beanie's Older Sister

Spring has sprung and so has separation anxiety. I am far from ready to get rid of my beloved black wool beret. Luckily, the cold temperatures and Gucci’s spring/summer 2016 ready-to-wear line have given me a reason to keep holding on.

Alessando Michele’s collection combined retro ‘70s elements with a quirky, smart girl aesthetics. Lace, leather and loafers were in abundance. While slouchy, striped berets were dotted throughout. The color palette was saturated with rich reds, greens and yellows, but prevented from becoming too heavy by pastel blues and pinks. Bold florals and stripes were featured on many of the pieces.

While I am not to the level of dressiness displayed in the Gucci collection, its elements inspire my own spring wardrobe. Nothing compares to the feeling of happiness when I take out my pastels after a long winter of black. Finally putting away my riding boots and allowing my ankles to be free in my floral slip-on sneakers is liberating. However, I am not ready for all the changes that come with spring

This winter was a turning point in my headwear game. Hats were simply not a part of my everyday clothing rotation. The only ones I owned were old beanies from 2012 reserved solely for blizzards. The skater girl chill vibe they emit is not in line with my personality or style.

However, its older sister, the beret, is.

Berets elevate even the plainest of outfits making them into something special. I am not ready to let that little bit of fashion magic out of my life yet.

Get My Look: 1. Beret. 2. Pastel jacket. 3. Slip-On sneakers.
