As the girl power theme slowly but surely seeps into our everyday life, more and more recent runway trends and fashion items aim to subtly (or not so subtly) make a statement about feminism and to strike down the soft and girly fashion stereotype. The fall 2015 ready-to wear Balenciaga collection centers all of its pieces around a strong, boxy silhouette created by the tough jackets and coats.
This is a look whose essence I look up to and want to incorporate into my own outfits. However, with the scorching summer upon us, some serious alterations are needed. I chose a boxy bomber jacket as the power item in my look. It is the farthest item from the stereotypical shape of being feminine—form-fitting, and adds a grungy vibe to any casual outfit. It is also the perfect item to sport on those chilly nights. I kept the rest of the look simple and summer-friendly, with a white knitted crop top and a pair of super distressed denim shorts. This is a fool-proof combination to show some skin and to make sure that you do not get swallowed by the jacket’s daunting fit (or lack thereof). The slip-on sneakers pulled the entire look together and toned down the edgy-ness. The gold necklaces added a little bit of daintiness back into the outfit and echoed the gold accents on my backpack perfectly.
Get My Look: 1. Bomber jacket. 2. Crop top. 3. Distressed denim shorts.
