STYLE GURU STYLE: The Good, the Bad and the Black

Having lived in the wonderful city of Melbourne for a number of years now, I definitely feel qualified and comfortable putting together an all-black outfit that is far from boring. If you’ve read any of my previous posts, you may remember me mentioning just how frequently Melburnians wear black in an utterly stylish way. The Diesel Black Gold fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection is reminiscent of the layered and classically dark, neutral outfits you’re more than likely to find here.

One of my favorite ways to make an all-black outfit interesting is to layer as many different fabrics and textures as I can. Let me list for you all of those I’ve included in this outfit, because I definitely think I’ve covered my bases. The pieces I’m wearing include: a fleece turtleneck, shaggy cardigan, velvet shorts, thick woolen tights, faux-leather backpack, vintage leather lace-up boots, knee-high cotton socks and 1970s inspired round sunglasses.

Despite everything I’m wearing being the same color (or lack thereof), there’s definitely a lot going on. All of these pieces put together make for a super warm and rugged outfit, while allowing you the option to remove one or two of those pieces in the rare, winter event that the sun comes out.

Finally, I also added a few simple pieces of silver jewelry. These complement the silver details already present in the outfit, such as the eyelets on the boots, frames of the sunglasses and parts of the backpack.

Get My Look: If you want to add more black to your look, definitely consider adding these staple pieces to your wardrobe: 1. Comfortable velour shorts. 2. BDG faux-leather pocket backpack. 3. Textured lace-up boots. 4. Fuzzy knit cardigan.
