STYLE GURU STYLE: The New Classic

My favorite colors to wear are black and white. I love wearing black during fall and winter, and white during spring and summer. However, Tampa weather doesn’t change that often; so, what is a girl like me supposed to do in this limbo period when the calendar says it’s almost fall, but it still feels like summer? My answer is simple—wear both colors!

Rebecca Minkoff’s resort 2016 fashion show was the epitome of the 1960s. The collection included everything from fringe to retro prints. However, what I used as my inspiration from this collection were classy colors and a classic fabric. I was able to create a Rebecca Minkoff-inspired outfit by using simple, yet bold pieces from my wardrobe.

My white dress is the base and the main focus of my outfit. I love this dress for a few reasons: it’s bright, it stands out, it can be worn on its own and it can be dressed up. I always question if I’m really guilty of the “you can’t wear white after Labor Day” rule since I live in Florida, the sunshine state. White is a must-have color in my wardrobe because of how well it contrasts with my skin. Black is also a necessity in my closet because it’s elegant and mysterious.

It’s no secret that the ‘60s were known for rock ‘n’ roll, so why not wear the decade’s staple fabric: Leather. Leather is definitely a staple fabric for the upcoming fall season, too. It’s great to wear on chilly nights, and can even just be used to accessorize an outfit. The more leather I wear, the edgier I feel. That being said, I can say that I was feeling pretty fierce in this outfit. I accessorized my white dress with black leather, which gave me a feminine, yet edgy, look.

Get My Look: 1. A plain white dress. 2. A fitted black leather jacket. 3. Black booties. 4. A black leather bag.
