STYLE GURU STYLE: The Pastel, The Print And The Black

There’s no questioning that Kenzo’s a brand that is very much known for its bold colors, statement prints and fun vibes. Out-there and unexpected, fresh designs are Kenzo’s specialty and what make this brand so extremely popular and appealing to everyone. Now taking this into account, was I the only one who was taken by surprise by its spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection?

I think it’s safe to say that this Kenzo collection completely contrasted most of its previous ones. The models at the show strutted down the runway in beautiful pieces that were a fascinating combination of both feminine and masculine silhouettes. Subtle, abstract prints and pastels like baby blue, white and pink and also edgy, head-turning black pieces dominated the runway and left the audience in awe. And that’s what I mostly liked about this collection. Kenzo Takada did an impeccable job at creating a collection that was a cohesive mixture of both light and dark colors and soft prints that screamed girly, edgy and above all, trendy.

Lately I’ve been finding myself attracted to pastels and delicate prints, which is not like me at all. I don’t know—call it spring, a style evolution or just one of my random phases—but my closet is slowly filling up with light colors that help break apart the blackness that hits you the second you take a peek into it or go through my dresser drawers. Now despite this, I always find ways to mix my love for black with my new affinity for pastels to create outfits that express my own personal style.

For this look, I wore a pair of white ankle-length high-waisted pants with a baby blue diamond print all over them. To bring in my edgy side, I paired a simple black turtleneck shirt and a black leather jacket (of course) so as not to retract any attention from the pants and to keep the outfit more casual and simple. In came my favorite pair of black pointed booties with silver details on the sides, my go-to black Marc by Marc Jacobs purse that I am beyond obsessed with, a few rings and a statement bracelet that brought out the colors of the pants.

Kenzo’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection definitely inspired me to mix and match different style elements and hues to create playful and unexpected outfits. In all honesty, I can see myself doing this quite a lot from now on. Thanks Kenzo, you rock.
