STYLE GURU STYLE: The Poncho

Fashion is known to come around full circle, meaning trends in the past will begin to show their faces once, or many times, again. There is one particular trend that has appeared this season, one that I personally never thought would come back. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the poncho.

Ponchos have been popping up in today’s hottest retail stores as well as some of the biggest fashion shows since the ‘70s. Burberry’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection caught my eye this season with ponchos that possess opulence and a freeing sense of style. They feature ample fabric and chilled tones, much like the poncho I just scored for Christmas. They also have a long silhouette: mostly the length of me!

I remember when I was younger I owned a white dated-looking poncho. It was knitted and I had this teddy bear pin that I wore with it. Don’t ask me why I thought this was cute or where I thought it was okay to wear it, but somehow back in the day it was acceptable. Seeing ponchos come back again I thought to myself, why? But as fashion changes, and old styles get drastically improved, so did the poncho. Now I have found myself falling for this blanket-equivalent piece!

My poncho from Express satisfies the whole outfit with its extensive span and dapper look, just like in the Burberry runway show. I wore a purple long sleeve shirt to bring a slight pop of color from my otherwise neutral poncho. Navy leg warmers add warmth and more comfort to the look, as well as to my chic yet grunge long boots. A small statement necklace completes the look, adding subtle detailing.

Get My Look: 1. Poncho. 2. Leg warmers. 3. Boots.
