STYLE GURU STYLE: Thigh's The Limit

Last winter, we were obsessed with short ankle booties and a low heel, casual enough for going to class and cute enough to wear out on date. But this winter, thigh-high boots seem to be stealing the show.

In Givenchy’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, many of the pieces were classic black (my favorite color of life), but it was the details that inspired me. Many of the runway looks featured thigh-high leather boots of all different styles—from strappy to studded. Givenchy’s edgy black looks with killer thigh-high boots inspired me to turn it into a look of my own.

Sweater dresses are my all time favorite pieces because you can find them in so many different styles. I was inspired by some of Givenchy’s more flowy pieces and went with a simple black sweater dress with a lighter knit. The lighter knit allows the dress to move with me as I walk. To make the look my own, I added a huge statement necklace (because we all know I’m a sucker for a good statement piece) which was a spin from one of Givenchy’s looks that featured a beautiful sparkly top with a gorgeous embellished center.

The star of the show were the thigh-high boots featured on most of the models. In my look, I’m wearing a pair of Via Spiga boots that are both stylish and comfortable—perfect for taking on the city. Thigh high boots can be scary for some, but styling it the right way makes all the difference. I kept the look classy with a higher neckline, adding a nice balance to the look. As for my shorter girls, the thought of wearing a boot that is as long as your leg sounds ridiculous, but as a short girl myself, finding the right pair was imperative. Some of these boots are sold in different lengths, so opt for a pair with that option. For some of the final touches, I added a black and gold Hermès bracelet and a classic black Burberry watch, which compliment the black and gold in my necklace perfectly.

This winter, ditch the booties and live a little with a pair of thigh-high boots. Even though we may not all have sky-high legs like the Givenchy models, a little bit of confidence goes a long way. As Better Midler said, “Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.”
