Many pieces from the ’90s and early 2000s inspire me with new outlook for the present. A runway show that embodied this was Chloé spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection. Designer Clare Waight Keller said the season’s collection was a tribute to girls named Kate, Chloe, Cecilia, Corinne, Rosemary, Emma and Courtney, who embodied the liberty and elegance of a perfectly mastered and excessively lived simplicity. All these women are her superstar friends who she grew up with.
The collection brought back to life ’90s nostalgia and the power of simplicity with its signature pieces of festival dresses and mini skirts. My favorite were the oversized denim separates and overalls, which reminded me of the good old days. Along with the collection’s youthful ’90s vibe, Keller paired an off the shoulder top with a split hem track pant bringing athleisure and romance together.
A highlight of the collection for me was the combination of trends of the present with iconic pieces of the past. To recreate this, I wore my oversized denim jacket and stretchy bodycon dress. My oversized denim jacket remains one of my best finds. I found it at the bottom of a bin at a thrift store. I remember finding it and feeling like I had picked up a piece of the past! The gray bodycon dress I wore with it had an athleisure feel to it. To add a classic Chloé romantic twist, I wore a cross-body bag, sunglasses and black wedges. I wanted to recreate an adventurous look that gave off a reminiscence of the past mixed with the edginess of the here and now.
