I was at work when a customer approached me with a question. When working in retail you receive many questions, but this question wasn’t about the store’s clothes—it was about mine. “Do you try to dress like you’re living in the ’90s?” she asked me. My coworkers thought it was a rude question but I was kind of flattered. I did actually try to dress like I was living in the ’90s. There is so much homage being paid to the ’90s grunge era, how could I not be inspired? Men’s Fashion Week recently took place in New York City and many of the shows centered their designs around the edgy trend. Alenxandre Plokhov’s spring 2016 collection stood out to me the most. He focused a lot on army green and I can never say no to army green.
I like to take inspiration from many things when it comes to my style. After viewing images from Alexandre Plokhov’s show, I felt inclined to wear my vintage army jacket. I like the masculine vibes it sends. Mixing masculine pieces with more feminine ones has sort of become my trademark. Naturally, I paired the coat with a denim skirt with buttons up the front. This piece is so popular right now and happens to be my favorite item in my wardrobe at the moment. It is girly in all the right ways. I wouldn’t be myself if I didn’t add a dash of athleticism in my look. For a bit of a pop, I wore my adidas logo shirt. Since I had been inspired by the grunge theme of Plokhov’s show, I laced up my vegan leather Dr. Martens and hit the town.
Get My Look: 1. An army jacket. 2. A denim skirt. 3. Combat boots.
