When I was younger, my parents and older sisters would always call me their little tomboy. My hair was cut short, and from what I can remember, I would always have my Mighty Morphin Power Rangers T-shirt, blue jeans and white sneakers on, prepared to play tag or soccer with the boys from school—this was around age six. In elementary school, I began wearing my brothers’ clothes. I wore their plain T-shirts, athletic and cargo shorts and running shoes. Believe me, I wanted so badly to be one of the boys. However, as the years flew by, my taste in boyish fashion and individuality has exchanged itself for more sophisticated and relaxed styles.
After reviewing Banana Republic’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, I was able to relive my tomboy days. In this collection, I was most inspired by the menswear. I loved the classic button-down tucked in with jeans and paired with white sneakers. I was inspired to create my own look by pairing a Forever 21 green striped button-down, tucked in with my Forever 21 blue jeans along with white Stan Smith adidas. I feel like this kind of look goes well with any activity I was doing, whether it was to go grocery shopping, pick up books from the library or take a walk on Lakeshore Path along Lake Mendota. Banana Republic’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection has got me thinking maybe this tomboy style should stay. Now, there’s a possibility there!
