I’ve never described my style as being feminine. You will never catch me wearing a pink floral dress with a pair of ballet flats and a bow. I always tend to gravitate towards the tougher end of the spectrum of clothing. Instead, leather jackets, chunky boots and studded accessories all call out my name. That’s why after buying a black midi skirt, I wasn’t sure exactly how to style it. A-line midi skirts are basically the epitome of feminine clothing, and I was in uncharted territory. I realized the Marc Jacobs’ fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection could help me style it to perfection.
Jacobs fused both feminine and tough styles in this collection to present something perfectly in the middle of the two. Models wore long, flowing skirts paired with platinum leather thigh-high boots, leopard print and studded silk. I decided to mirror one of the first looks out on the runway. The model wore a navy plaid mini dress synched at the waist by a leather belt. Sheer black tulle peeked out below the dress, ending about mid-calf. Her platinum leather boots were visible behind the sheer material. Jacobs added elbow-length black leather gloves and a black handbag to top off the outfit.
I started building my outfit with my black midi skirt. Its sheer panel reminded me of the model’s tulle peeking from her dress. I threw on a printed silk tank top to give the outfit some color. To toughen up the look, I added my wool biker jacket with leather details, and to top it off, I swapped the leather boots for a pair of black platform heels. This outfit is feminine without forcing me to go too far outside of my comfort zone. It’s perfect for a dinner, show or night out with friends!
