This semester I got an internship at my local television station and in my pursuit to expand my wardrobe I have a new challenge: stay professional while also staying trendy. Since I will be on camera I have to wear neutral colored clothing and avoid any crazy prints. I also love multifunctional pieces that can go from day-to-night easily so trying to find professional pieces that can also be worn going out with friends on a Friday night has been a challenge.
I recently discovered ThredUp, a website that sells brand-name, gently used clothing which has been so helpful to find affordable clothing that is professional yet unique. Living in Iowa the weather is constantly changing so I’m always aware of buying clothing that can easily be worn for warm and cold days and ThredUp is perfect to get more bang for your buck.
In this look that could easily go from a day of interviewing and filming to dinner with friends I paired black jeans and black booties with a fun zip-up cardigan. This sweater is professional but the detail on it makes it more fun and not your boring, average work clothes. My Kate Spade tote is a perfect work bag and size that can easily fit everything I need for a day at work and a night out with friends.
Being professional yet trendy while still being affordable can be difficult but using affordable sites that sell gently used clothing or vintage pieces can prove to be helpful when looking for unique pieces on a budget.
