It’s disappointing to see New York Fashion Week fly by again until spring 2016 ready-to-wear emerges this fall. I scoured Style.com during fashion week, careful not to drool in public too much! One day I discovered a designer that displayed simplicity in her fall 2015 looks that differed from the information overload and stimulation that’s all around us in our everyday lives. Trussardi’s militaristic jackets and suits contributed sharp edges and masculinity. Thin, fluid leather played a main role in the show to accentuate the curves in some looks and add a lustrous aesthetic in others. Leather heel ankle booties contributed to the overall sleek, simple style. Every model wore a dark lip color and had her hair pulled back, creating that masculine vibe that’s already so prominent among the military coats and skirt suits.
Naturally I searched my closet for an outfit that could mimic the beauty of Trussardi’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection, cursing to myself when I realized I left my black leather leggings at home. After about five minutes of clothes flying here and shoes flying there, I finally mastered an outfit! My ensemble starts with my Lauren Conrad maroon pleather skirt. Its A-line shape adds structure, along with the leather that’s so prominent throughout the show, easing you into the masculinity of the military jacket. My long black peacoat is accentuated with gold buttons that line up vertically on my jacket, and the square neckline is the finishing touch to any military-inspired piece.
Chocolate brown was the color that drenched the runway in Trussardi’s show, but my color for life is black! I wore black leather ankle booties in order to be consistent with the leather shoes stomping down the runway. Black tights and a long sleeve black shirt consumed my outfit underneath the jacket; the maroon skirt added that pop of color that I always need in order to look like I’m going to class and not a funeral.
A popular accessory that was utilized consistently in the runway show was a belt. I found a black and gold belt in my inventory that I clipped at my waist that literally pulled the entire outfit together. Acute details that I included were the dark lip and hair pulled back into a bun. Two accessories that would haunt me if I didn’t wear them were my Dooney & Bourke and DITA sunglasses, also known as my pride and joys. It’s always fun to add that Sabrina twist to things!
