When it comes to sweaters, we all own that one special sweater that we can mix and match with everything we own. That special sweater can be the ultimate staple of your winter collection. These past few years, turtleneck sweaters have been something that I simply cannot get enough of. Regardless of the variations that turtlenecks come in, I find myself unable to resist buying all of them in every color they are made in each store. The turtleneck trend this upcoming fall and winter season is still present and seems that it will be around for more seasons to come.
I practically live in anything that has a high collar, simply because, to me, it is comfortable and it shows a bit of sophistication. The sweaters can range from long sleeves, quarter or tank top, and you can even finding turtleneck dresses. Normally, a lot of people associate turtlenecks with older generations, and they seem outdated, but in today’s fashion industry, they are bringing a youthful and unique look to your wardrobe. It’s also a huge trend for this season!
The knitted turtleneck I am wearing in this photograph is from Express. What might not be seen in the photograph are high slit details in the sweater. This cut gives you multiple options on how to wear it. Since winter is creeping around the corner, I normally wear this sweater with high waisted jeans and a tank top underneath it matching the same color as the sweater.
Sticking to this trend, I opted for this olive military style jacket from Guess that is embellished with gunmetal studs on the collar. To balance the look, I wore my lace up ballet flats in a nude shade. While having a very monochromatic color scheme that is built up in my closet, both the feminine lace up flats and the olive jacket bring some excitement and personality. Lastly, I paired off the look with my all time favorite boyfriend jeans from New York and Company. These jeans are so practical and comfortable: it honestly feels like I am walking around in sweatpants rather than jeans.
With all the variations and differentiations of turtleneck sweaters, the options are limitless. In practically every store I have visited so far during this season is carrying turtlenecks of all colors and fabrics. The key is to balance the turtleneck’s clean lines and inherent simplicity with some eye-popping items to make a statement.
