STYLE GURU STYLE: Two-Toned

Nearly every look in Bouchra Jarrar’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection featured a great jacket or coat, creating a long and lean silhouette when paired with a casual top and trim trousers. The coats in her collection were all stunning, whether it was a simple and sleek topcoat trench or the roomier, military style swing coats.

The other ensembles in the collection included wispy silk blouses, black and white animal print pieces and a gorgeous pair of velvet flare trousers. Every look was sophisticated and functional with just the perfect amount of Parisian flare.

So even though I am still searching through racks and racks of clothes to find some super ‘70s-inspired velvet flare pants (let’s hope I find some soon!), I was very much inspired by the first look in her collection, which features a pair of trim white trousers.

White is sleek and truly functional because it works well with every color. And there’s something about pairing a crisp white top or a pair of white pants with a black or blue jacket; the contrasting colors create such an eye-catching look.

I decided to wear a pair of my favorite white trousers—they are super comfortable, but they also have very sophisticated and elegant look to them. To contrast with the white pants and to emulate some of the looser pieces in Jarrar’s collection, I wore a flowy black crop top. But these were only the base pieces of my look.

I, of course, had to add a coat to my look because this was one of the most prominent pieces in the collection. So I decided to wear my favorite Topshop duster coat to add another loose and flowy element.

The black pockets and elbow patches on the coat played off of my black shirt, and to balance out the darker tones on top, I added a pair of black laced high heels.

And to keep this look polished, I stuck to three simple colors—black, dark blue and white. But I had to add a pop of color, so I wore my favorite MAC lipstick and a pair of red- rimmed sunglasses.

Get My Look: 1. A pair of white pants. 2. A flowy duster coat. 3. A pair of heels.
