When I am putting my outfits together, the first thing that comes to mind is, “How can I take this outfit to the next level?” I can change the shoes, add a pop of color or wear my hair in a different way. But I never thought to add a different texture and make a velvet piece my staple!
I found inspiration from the Calvin Klein Collection fall 2015 ready-to-wear fashion show, where it was all about the smooth, rich fabrics. The show had a mod ’60s vibe to it, and they used mostly dark tones so that the fabric stood out. Being from Connecticut, I also loved that the fashion show showcased what East Coast fall looks are like. Having a mix between dark and sophisticated is what appeals to us Fashionistas.
Being from the East coast, I was taught that velvet was a fall and winter fabric and should only be worn during those months. But when I saw the fashion show and how it was paired with mini skirts and maxi skirts, I saw the opportunity to use that as my summer advantage. Although I won’t be doing this all the time this season, I wouldn’t mind taking my inner Fashionista and trying it out.
So I took my Forever 21 royal blue velvet crop top and paired it with a black chiffon maxi skirt to give it that summer breeze, topping it off with statement jewelry, sunglasses and a pop of lip color with Kat Von D Vampira liquid lipstick.
