Well, when it rains, it really pours. Mid-August is upon us which officially means the end of summer and sun and the beginning of a new school year—And if you live in the Midwest or South it also means the coming torrential rain. The start of a new school year also signals the perfect time to break out all of fall’s greatest trends and no other brand brought the trends like Vetements. Seen on everyone from Kendall Jenner to Celine Dion, the brand’s deconstructed street-inspired pieces paired with next-level accessories make anyone simply ooze cool.
Inspired by Vetements oversized bombers and thigh-high boots, as well as Yves Saint Laurent, Céline and Alexander Wang‘s slip dress obsession, I combined a mix of vintage and new with men’s and women’s pieces to achieve a runway-to-street look. The black quilted oversized men’s bomber is perfect in this cool wet weather and paired over a vintage Elvis T-shirt and floral slip dress, the contrasts in weight and texture make for an unexpected totally Vetements-esque look. To really add a twist, I took a cue from the brand’s latest collection and finished the outfit off with thigh-high boots from Forever 21. Topped with a baseball cap and handbag, I have to say I feel 10x cooler already.
Call Vetements a style or an attitude, either way the vibe is infections with its experimentalism and acceptance of both high fashion and comfort. Whether or not the look is up your alley, give it a shot! Mix things together that you normally would never think of wearing together. Pair sportswear with intense fashion, high end with low, sweats with heels and see what you get. You may just be surprised with the results.
