Velvet has been hands-down one of my top trends lately. It all began when I bought my first velvet top. Now, after just a few short months, I have also acquired a velvet blazer, dress, headband, bralette, and choker. I’m not even sure I am done yet; I just can’t get enough! I love the luxe appearance of velvet and how it is a heavier fabric for taking on the winter weather in style.
The starting point for putting together this outfit was the red velvet dress. One of my friends once told me, “If I were to choose one material to describe Kelsey, it would be red velvet.” I can’t say I disagree with her—I love to rock red velvet even outside of the holiday season. The crossover top of this dress works with the fit and flare skirt to create the perfect flirty silhouette. The fluffy, white jacket I am wearing over the top is by WhoWhatWear. I absolutely love how this jacket adds a bit of drama to any outfit, and it’s perfect for the winter time.
As far as accessories, I love a good pair of patterned tights. The effect that this floral lace pair has against the velvet makes for an edgier combination. For shoes, I added my favorite pair of black booties to give a little height, and rock up the look. But of course, my favorite accessory of this outfit is the velvet headband complete with rhinestones. I am determined to help bring headbands back in style. I love to drool over Blair Waldorf’s headbands every time I watch Gossip Girl. They are such a cool way to add color or sparkle to an outfit!
