Miu Miu’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection featured several ensembles in which the focus was the model’s shoulders. These off-the-shoulder pieces keep you cool, but classy, which are my top two fashion priorities this summer. Being a summer baby means I love to bask in the sun as much as possible, and these off-the-shoulder tops and dresses allow me to do just that, all while gaining a little more color than normal.
Miu Miu isn’t something I can exactly afford nor pull off in my everyday life, so I got a little creative for this look. In the summertime I’m generally working or just chilling outside if the weather permits, so I want something that will be super comfortable but stylish. While Miu Miu used the classic palette of black and white, I chose to spice up my look with some color.
This combination of dark blue and orange suits just about every skin tone, so I figured it would be the best option for me as I start the summer incredibly pale, then gradually work my way up to a nice, dark tan. The cinched waistline with this piece is very flattering, but I added a simple braided belt to break up the busy pattern of the dress in order to keep the look more casual.
I like to keep my jewelry very simple, and luckily, the models in Miu Miu’s show had very little on as well. Since the dress is full of color, I chose to don three simple, copper rings in varying widths and designs; they added nice detail to the ensemble without stealing the show.
I tend to add a tomboy flare to most of my wardrobe, so instead of wearing a delicate pair of sandals like many of the models on the runway, I chose to take the more practical route with these cute shoes that lie somewhere between sneakers and boat shoes. Keeping the accessories light, the only other piece I added to this ensemble was a nude pair of sunglasses—these match almost anything and can make a casual outfit seem more sleek.
Get My Look: 1. Cold shoulder dress or off-the-shoulder top. 2. Flat, delicate shoes. 3. Sunglasses.
