Have you ever been so down you felt like the sun was never going to come out again? Well, this is my feeling every finals week. Studying at 7:00 a.m. and becoming a night owl at the university’s library can mess with your mood, and consequently, with your outfits. Everyone knows that when exams are approaching students tend to dress more laid-back and comfortable. But, I have recently found that when I am feeling down, one of the best ways to cheer me up is through my clothes.
A colorful outfit in which I feel beautiful makes me feel like I can deal with deadlines, exams, family, and social life and excel at it. Today was one of those days. We had two exams left and the library had become my house 24/7. I said to myself: why not wear leggings and a graphic T-shirt? But my inner voice talked and made me realize I needed a boost. So I grabbed my favorite top and a pair of jeans which—surprise!—are comfortable yet stylish.
The top I am wearing is perfect for the spring season as it is not sleeveless or sleeved, so you are dressed for every situation of the changing spring weather. The color brings so much calmness and the ruffle recalls the summer breeze and long evenings next to the sea, a reminder that summer is around the corner. When I put on this top, I always feel overdressed but, as Franca Sozzani said, “You can never be overdressed or overeducated.” I still feel like I am dressed for a fancy event whenever I am wearing it, so I always try to combine it in a relaxed way.
Today, I put on my favorite pair of jeans. As they are high-waisted, they are really comfortable, which is a requirement for these days of studying. Also, trainers are a must on finals week. We are always in a rush, running from class to class, so I put on my best pair. Ready, steady, go, and pass all your exams!
