The Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland once stated, “Anyone can go by horse or rail, but the absolute best way to travel is by hat.” Something about the winter makes me want to travel. I ache for distant beach shores and a good book on a porch swing. My professor’s voice usually brings me back from these daydreams. So what’s a girl to do when all she wants is to travel to far off shores, but the tide keeps pushing her back to the classroom? Place your daydreams of spring fun into a hat. I’m serious! In Wendy Nichol’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, hats are in the air. The stunning show includes daring top hats finished with a monochromatic flair. So let’s incorporate this runway style into your everyday look! You’ll be surprised how many compliments you’ll receive on your chic style. We’ll keep the real reason you’re wearing the hat (second-day hair) a secret between us.
Personally, I love hats of all types. Floppy hats, felt hats, wool hats, beanies, the list goes on and on. For this hat-topped ensemble, I was inspired by Nichol’s runway looks to try something a little different. That’s right, I’m wearing a bowler hat, and I’m absolutely in love with it! Who knew that a hat best known for its role in Charlie Chaplin’s silent films could speak so loudly to my style soul?
For this look, I used a monochromatic color theme to tie in with the vintage feel of the bowler hat. I added just a dash of color and warmth with my faux leather detailed cardigan to make the look my own. The rest of my look stays classically black and oh-so-easy to recreate. I kept things trendy by including a pair of this season’s favorite booties. Last but certainly not least, I included a bowler hat with a leather detail to pull the look together. Perfect for braving windy winter weather, the bowler will spring you into a mood that will melt the coldest days.
So try a bowler this week. Trust me, traveling into the spring semester never looked so good.
