I’ve always been obsessed with vintage pieces and new pieces that look like they could be vintage. The character and memories that have been woven into older pieces helps bring life to an outfit. Whether it is something of my mom’s from the ’80s or something I found in my local consignment shop, I’ve found that combining trendy and vintage pieces creates a unique look.
I was inspired by the Schiaparelli fall 2015 couture collection, as Bertrand Guyon created a dazzling collection by combining more classic and vintage elements with bolder colors, shapes and embellishments. Even though I have no occasion to wear couture to in the coming months, I thought it would be fun to create a more wearable outfit (for class or the weekend) that combined the trendy with the classic.
For my look, I started with a more trendy, forest green peplum top. I liked that the color was unexpected (I never wear green!). The ankle booties are definitely a huge trend this fall, and they are also much kinder on a college Fashionista’s budget than the riding boots trend of past seasons. Kendra Scott jewelry is a big trend, but the simple classic designs will be wearable for seasons to come. My new Chloé sunglasses are so chic! I love how they are so different from Ray-Ban wayfarers or clubmasters. Lastly, I chose to carry a vintage Coach bag. I love how the leather is worn and the overall quality of the bag is a lot better than most of my cheaper purses.
