Hello Fashionistas! My name is Whitney Waine Woodburn (but you can call me whitneywaine) and I am from Washingtonville, New York. I am a senior at SUNY Buffalo State College with a dual major in Fashion Merchandising and Communication Studies with a minor in Women and Gender Studies. My passions are fashion and writing, and I have many years of experience in both. I attended Orange-Ulster BOCES CTECH in high school, a vocational institution where I studied Fashion Merchandising and Interior Design. There I was able to figure out how to turn my love of fashion into a future career. In college, I have volunteered for SUNY Buffalo State’s annual Runway Fashion Show. I am currently a Fashion Merchandising intern at Janie’s Emporium in Kenmore, NY, where I assist boutique owner Alisha Taggart-Powell and learn the necessary steps to running a business.
I have had a very special relationship with clothing ever since I was younger, and as I have grown to attend college and study it, I have come to love fashion even more. There’s something so fascinating about watching trends come back into style, and to see new ones emerge. Fashion brings people together, but it also makes us all unique and allows us to express ourselves without uttering a word.
This is my second season as a Style Guru, and it is my favorite season as well! Fall is a great time because it is the happy medium of hot and cold. I can start to show off my new boots while simultaneously wearing a cute tank top during the last warm days of the year. I also love layers, and this is the perfect time to wear many pieces without being uncomfortable. Sterling silver jewelry is my go to accessory, and I have a slight obsession with scarves and really colorful bags.
I really look forward to introducing you to the various styles found on my campus, and how Buffalo State students continue to express our style even as the temperature drops. I hope to inspire you to try new looks, and to view your closet differently.
Let’s have a stylish season!
