I am guilty of dressing like a grandmother. The amount of times I’ve been told by my sisters “you look like Oma’s couch” is too many times to count. But I have no shame. There’s nothing wrong with adding a little old over a little new. This mixture was inspired by Balenciaga’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection. It’s a collection full of old time tweed mixed with shimmery high neck sweaters. But more than that, the collection had a lot of structured, granny-ish jackets over top of neutral grey sweaters and loose fitting pants. It’s one of the few collections from fall ready-to-wear presentations that I can actually see as being kind of ready to wear for a normal person.
The day I put on my first pair of boyfriend jeans was the day I never wanted to show off my legs (or my butt) again. It was like freedom. I love the juxtaposition it gives when paired with older looking items and with heels. It’s like, yeah, my grandma would like my coat, but as soon as she saw my pants it would be like looking at a flapper in her dress for the first time. This ankle grazing style, however, is perfect when paired with heeled or flat ankle boots. The sweater makes it perfect for fall, and the jacket makes the look just polished off enough to feel good about the fact that you have no shape in your boyfriend jeans.
How can you get my look? First, start off with boyfriend jeans. Then, add some. ankle boots and a sweater. Lastly, throw on a chic jacket.
