STYLE GURU STYLE: Wild Child

Lisa Perry’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection featured a variety of bold trends, in an ode to the fashion of the late ’60s. Perry chose mod shapes, like A-line mini dresses, and embellished with retro elements. She used bright polka-dots, juxtaposing stripes and touches of animal prints. Color-blocking with bright, rich colors like green, fuchsia and cobalt blue was also prominent within the collection. The collection also featured plays with geometric shapes, including different-sized polka dots, diagonal cuts and stripes in different directions.

For my look, I wanted to use a few elements from the collection for a look that paid tribute to the retro inspiration, while still feeling modern. I chose to incorporate animal print, bold colors and geometric lines. I started with a graphic tank top, featuring a leopard print. Because the print is black and white, the addition of color does not overwhelm the look.  I added a skort in a bright and fun cobalt blue. The skort features an asymmetrical hem, a nod to the diagonal lines and geometric elements present in Perry’s collection.

In order to keep the look casual and appropriate for a college campus, I threw on a light wash denim jacket. I chose glittery slide-on shoes to finish the outfit for a feminine touch. Finally, I added an armful of bracelets, including a blue-beaded bracelet to complement the skort. I also chose to apply one of my favorite trends, mixing metals, to the look by adding a unique combination of rings in gold, silver and rose gold.
