STYLE GURU STYLE: Winter Street Edge

I am always looking for ways to incorporate a little edge into my looks. It definitely spices things up from my quieter personal style! Taking inspiration from Alexander Wang’s pre-fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection, I was able to combine offbeat pieces, just like Alexander Wang did for his streetwear-inspired collection.

In his collection, Wang looked to the streets of New York City for inspiration. The collection is a bold mixture of leather, metals, animal prints, outerwear and high necklines. I was influenced by this collection because I felt like I already owned many pieces that could be mixed together to create an Alexander Wang-inspired outfit. As I expected, creating an edgy Wang look was simple and the results were rewarding.

In my streetwear creation, I started off by using an animal print like Wang did in his pre-fall 2016 collection. I went with a pair of emerald green snakeskin printed skinny jeans. Then, I added a black tank top with fringe details from American Eagle Outfitters. Wang used some form of leather in almost every look he sent down the runway for his collection. I layered a black leather jacket over my tank top and then added a pair of black leather combat boots. I usually reach for leather when I want some extra edge, so this was another reason why I was so drawn to this particular collection by Wang.

As for accessories, I really stuck to what Wang did in each of his looks. He added a long scarf to many of his models looks. The scarf was wrapped around the neck in a high position. I fell in love with this way to wear a scarf because I think high necklines add an unexpected edge. Also, this is a simple trick to “fake” a high neckline if you do not own any high neckline tops. I finished off my look with some silver metal rings, in order to incorporate some metal aspects like Wang did.

Get my look: 1. Leather jacket. 2. Long scarf. 3. Animal print skinny jeans. 4. Fringe tank top. 5. Black combat boots.
