Brrrrrrr! Winter is upon us! I think that New York City in the winter is just beautiful. Everything from the breathtaking, snowy scenery in our parks, to the hidden pop up Christmas shops that sell the creamiest hot chocolate. The only teeny tiny thing I would change, is the frigid and blistering cold. Despite my grand dislike for it, our below-freezing temperatures call for my favorite style of dressing: layering. It’s every Fashionistas/os best friend in the winter; especially for this Guru. Sometimes, too many layers can make us look like little marshmallows wobbling down 27th street. However, when done right, you won’t ever have to sacrifice function over fashion.
Now that fashion and technology have become so well blended, we can look fabulous and be super warm. Uniqlo has done a great job of keeping me warm during the winter months. Plus, their clothes are so affordable! I shop almost everywhere and anywhere I feel I’m getting the most bang for my buck. I got most of my look at H&M and Uniqlo, with the exception of my jeans and booties.
For this look, I paired a long gray cardigan with my blue striped button-down. To keep myself cozy, I have a black heat tech undershirt under my button-up. For my bottoms, I have leggings under my jeans and thermal socks keeping my little toes warm. What’s most important about layering is that you have fun with it; play with different textures and styles. Roll the sweater sleeve up to show the sleeve of your undershirt. Wear some ripped jeans with pattern leggings. The possibilities are endless! Another thing I like to do is accessorize, accessorize, accessorize. Most times, I layer up on watches and bangle sets from Alex and Ani. After all that, I put on my face, put on some lipstick, and I’m ready to brave the cold.Â
There you have it. My not-so-secret, secret to dressing in the winter. Stay warm!
