Surprise surprise….I’m wearing all-back, yet again. Although my heart is in California, New York really understands me when it comes to wearing this beautiful shade. What’s really amazing though is how creative individuals can get with just working one color in their ensemble. I’ve started paying more attention to the unique ways fabric is cut and the way it flows on a person’s body.
This all-black look was inspired by Y-3’s spring menswear show. The collection featured very basic colors of black, white, red and blue. What caught my eye though was the way the designer cut and draped the fabric for the pieces. I also loved that the models wore tennis shows on the runway—talk about a way to reduce stumbles.
I opted for some of my wardrobe’s more masculine pieces for this look. These baggy bottoms look almost like sweatpants, but are actually made of really nice fabric and are totally acceptable for the office. They are casual and extremely comfortable. I dressed them up with one of my favorite sleeveless tops. The collar keeps with the masculine feel but I love the front-tie and back cutout for a more feminine and summer look. The cut of the top makes it more interesting than just a basic black tank top.
Converse have been my shoe of choice since middle school. I think my feet have actually just formed to fit those shoes perfectly by now. Needing another pair of go-to sneakers though, I just recently bought this pair of black Nike Flex Run. I was hesitant at first, but they have quickly become some of my favorite shoes. They are the lightest and most comfortable footwear I’ve had in a while. Like the show, I kept this look free of flashy accessories. I just added my must-have Shinola watch. I swapped the strap (see the green one in my previous STYLE GURU STYLE post) for this black leather band to match the New York City vibe.
Get My Look: 1. A uniquely cut black top. 2. Loose-fitting black boyfriend jeans would work for this look. 3. A pair of black sneakers, I recommend classic black Nikes.
