Many love him, many hate him, but one cannot deny that Kanye West has style.
It started when I was shuffling though my music and out of nowhere the Yeezus album came on. Now let me side note that I am a huge Kanye West fan. I walked with him through Graduation and stayed by him through 808’s and Heartbreak just so he could Watch The Throne (if you don’t get those references, hit up Spotify or iTunes immediately). When the Yeezus album came on however, what immediately came to mind was not Kanye’s career in rap, but one in fashion, specifically Yeezy Season One. Looking at Kanye West’s first full fashion collection for ready-to-wear fall 2015 Kanye West x adidas Originals, also referred to as Yeezy Season One, I was struck by just how grabbing each piece in the collection was, and inspired to recreate that signature style. Kanye’s debut fashion show was filled with one of a kind pieces from the musician focused on a color palette of deep grays, blacks, greens, and other neutrals with skin toned tights on every model providing contrast to highlight each specific piece. With this inspiration in hand, I set out to recreate a look that would make Dr. West proud.
Seeing as I am on a CollegeFashionista’s budget, I set out to create a look that I wouldn’t need a gold digger’s salary to afford. H&M turned out to have a killer what I dubbed to be “Kanye West” section of their store with an array of moody yet trendy tops and bottoms that captured the essence of Kanye West x adidas Originals Season One. I found a perfect gray tank top that shows off those arm muscles and makes you feel stronger. A darker gray burnout material vest layered on top echoed the layering in Kanye’s collection. Black jeans ripped at the knee and distressed around the ankles bound together the clothing portion for this ensemble.
Next were the accessories. Kanye kept it simple jewelry wise so I added a single long silver necklace for detail on the top half of the outfit. Also, seeing as Kanye’s collection was partnered with adidas, I decided to take a cue from the sportswear brand with a Jawbone Up fitness band on my wrist perfect for any new workout plan. Perforated leather slip on sneakers that you can easily walk all day in complete this powerful look yet accessible Kanye West inspired look Yeezy has always been a fashion icon so I’m glad I got to take inspiration from this famous Fashionisto, but you better catch onto this runway trend quick, before you aren’t the only one with this type of outfit.
