Yigal Azrouël displayed a collection of breathtaking pieces that were sleek, feminine, modern and sophisticated all at the same time. His collection included airy and transparent dresses with soft brush strokes painted across the fabric. A few looks later, an all-black, zip-up dress with a sleek and futuristic feel made its debut. Azrouël spring 2016 ready-to-wear show took on a mindset of showing the progression of fabrics, cuts and styles, starting with softer pieces near the beginning of the show and ending with jet black, dramatic silhouettes at the end.
Inspired by this progression in color and style, I set off on a mission to incorporate these elements into my everyday look. I wanted an ensemble that had a sophisticated silhouette while still giving off a soft and more feminine feel. So I reached for a newly purchased Calvin Klein zip-up dress that I felt perfectly embodied the feel of Azrouël collection.
The zip-up detailing on the front is very similar to some of the looks that were seen later on in the show. Though the dresses in the collection were black, the cut of my Calvin Klein dress was almost spot on to those found on the runway, and the zipper detailing was nearly identical.
But to add some of the darker elements of the show into my look, I decided to pair my all-white dress with a black choker (the ‘90s are still so in!) and a pair of black, block heel ankle strap sandals. To finish off the look, I added a swipe of red lipstick.
I am a huge fan of simple, monochromatic looks, and that’s why I absolutely fell in love with this collection. Sometimes sticking to a single color in an outfit makes for the most eye-catching ensemble, and Azrouël’s collection proves just that.
