Three Underrated Places You Must Visit in Rome

Recently, I just came back from a life-changing week in Rome, Italy. I had the opportunity to go on a short vacation there with my aunt. As I was thinking about my expectations of the city on the nine-hour flight to Rome, I came to the realization that I didn’t know what to expect. When most people think about Italy, they tend to think about the different types of food that Italy has to offer—like all sorts of pasta, pizza, and wine. Although I did indulge in a lot of different types of food, the most incredible part of Rome was the multiple historical and modern sites that I visited.

The first place that you need to visit is the Capitoline Museum on Capitoline Hill. I could have spent the entire day here, even though it was so hot. There’s a lot of history within the museum, and if you’re into beautiful painting and sculptures, this is the place for you. Not only are the paintings and sculptures stunning, but so is the architecture of the museum. It was built around 300 A.D. and has been preserved to this day.

The next place you need to go is a restaurant called That’s Amore. It was the best pasta I’ve ever had and I seriously want to go back just for the dish I had. It’s a really small restaurant close to the Trevi Fountain, so if you want to go, make sure to make a reservation! The waitstaff there was so kind and catered to our needs even though we didn’t make a reservation. I highly recommend going here!

After you dine at That’s Amore, there is a street nearby that has an amazing selection of shops. The name of this street is Via del Corso. This street has a ton of different types of shops ranging from H&M to Gucci. There are shops for everyone on the Via del Corso, and I visited this street almost every day I was in Rome. I happened to purchase a couple items from H&M that were new arrivals, and a really different dress from Zara that I know will be a staple in my closet this summer.

Of course, you must visit the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and the Vatican, but the spots above, I feel, are underrated and need some more love. If I hadn’t gone to the Capitoline Museum, That’s Amore, and Via del Corso, my trip wouldn’t have been as life-changing as it was! I seriously encourage anyone who is going to Rome to visit these three places.
