Walking through campus, I am often disheartened by the vast amounts of dull outfits that guys throw together. Every day, I find myself drowning in a sea of basketball shorts, worn-out T-shirts and drawstring bags. I still find myself cringing at cargo shorts and guys pairing socks with sandals. Luckily, there are beacons of hope. Some days, I am lucky enough to run into multiple well-dressed men that I can’t help but feel drawn to. There is something very attractive about men who take the time to appropriately style themselves.
In college, we are constantly making impressions on the people around us, often unknowingly. How we dress impacts how a person perceives us. This is why it is important that we take the initiative to dress nicely. There is always a chance that a recruiter or even a company executive might present in your class. For this reason, you want to ensure that you look your best.
Still, this post does not apply only to guys. I see just as many yoga pants as I do basketball shorts every day. Ladies, its important to give your appearance attention, and even though it pains me to say it, comfort is not always the biggest priority. Your appearance is a direct reflection of yourself, so you should take the time to dress nicely and put outfits together accordingly.
This Fashionisto looks sharp and polished. He pairs a simple blue button down with a maroon cardigan. He wears a pair of slim khakis. He accessorizes with a classic watch. While watches intimidate some men, it is important to note that watches don’t always have to be flashy. Choosing a watch that is timeless and classy can easily dress up a simple outfit. Guys, it’s time to toss the basketball shorts, sweatshirts and sweatpants. To quote Jay-Z, “You can pay for school, but you can’t buy class.”
One Simple Change: If you are dressing for a semi-formal occasion, trade in the cardigan for a neutral blazer.
