The best piece of advice I’ve received was from my GW tour guide. After completing my first tour of the university as a prospective student, and making a lame joke about planning to coast through college, my guide looked me square in the eyes and said: “Taylor, not taking risks is risky.” While my tour guide was most definitely referring to getting involved and making the most of a college experience, those words resonated with me even more whenever I made a fashion or style decision.
This Fashionista took me by surprise when told me she was headed to class! On a chilly early April day, the last place I would have expected to find a crop top would be on a student on her way to her engineering class. But this Fashionista obviously knew how to push the envelope and take a risk, effortlessly mixing her femininity with an edgy, military twist.
Balancing the bit of visible skin, this Fashionista opted for a slim fitting green cargo pant, which is a perfect choice for the ever fluctuating D.C. springtime weather. Her studded mini leather tote was a great pick for a smart girl on the go: all the functionality with the right amount of sass. And as all Fashionistas know, no outfit is complete without a timeless piece: a simple watch.
This smart cookie totally challenged my ideas about what is considered appropriate apparel for the classroom, but there’s truly nothing better than running into another Fashionista willing to be bold and risky.
One Simple Change: Just got out of your last class of the day and looking to hit up the nearest happy hour? Toss the parka to the side and grab a leather jacket for an easy day-to-night transition to the hotspot hangout with your girls!
