WHAT TO WEAR: Class

Gym-to-street clothing has been plastered all over various magazines, news articles and blogs. It’s been seen on Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Kanye West and so many other hot celebrities we continuously drool over. As college students, we are pretty much booked. Scheduling our days around class and going to the gym is a lifestyle. So, we’re easily susceptible to falling into the trap of sweatpants and sneakers during the cold months. Let’s remind ourselves, this isn’t such a bad thing nowadays. We’re tired and to be quite honest, athleisure is now bigger than ever. It’s refreshing to hear that it isn’t impossible to still let your personal style shine through while wearing something opportune and comfortable.

Athleisure—what is it? By definition, athleisure refers to casual clothing such as yoga pants, sweat pants and hoodies that are designed to be worn both for exercising and for everyday wear. Two years ago, you didn’t see people walking around in workout gear unless they were coming to or from the gym, but nowadays you do. Athletic apparel offers convenience, comfort and style, which is exactly why fashion icons see this aesthetic sticking around for awhile. As far as fashion is concerned, it’s perfectly fine to wear a pair of sweatpants, a cool blazer and designer sneakers basically anywhere (even if you aren’t breaking a sweat).

Studying for midterms is stressful enough, so you might as well skip worrying about which flannel and pair of khakis you’re going to wear to class and go the athleisure route. There is nothing better than getting out of bed and changing out of your pajamas into something just as cozy. Workout clothes are a lot easier to throw on, especially now that they’re cuter, more flattering and more acceptable to wear them when you aren’t working out.

This Fashionisto achieves the athleisure look perfectly; he opts for Nike sweatpants and a sweatshirt, paired with his Nike Dri-FIT T-shirt. He sports Nike Air Max 90 sneakers and accessorizes with a Herschel backpack, a Fitbit and a hometown snapback. If you ask me, he rocks it rather smoothly. This get up is a time saver, allowing him to go straight from class to the gym without having to change.

Don’t be afraid to swap your jeans for a pair of mesh-inserted leggings or joggers and your sweater for an athletic pullover or leather jacket. The athleisure look is easy—you just have to find a way to make it work as this Fashionisto did.

One Simple Change: Want to make this look work for the weekend? Try swapping out the sweatshirt for a more structured sports coat or the joggers for a pair of tan khakis and you’re good to go.
