Going to class is a part of every college student’s every daily routine, but a true Fashionista/o uses every moment to make a fashion statement… the world is our runway! Here at Howard, we are on the cusp of fall when it’s cold in the morning and the weather shoots to the mid-70s during the day. Yeah, it’s annoying for everyone, but there is a way to make it work when it comes to fashion. This problem can be easily solved by layering, color play and many other details that will make your outfit weather appropriate.
Let’s take this Fashionista for example. She decided to play with the generic “school girl” theme and made the outfit mature, sexy and stylish all at the same time. The way she incorporated the plaid skirt was quite clever. It isn’t the usual pleated skirt, the fact that it is bodycon and short gives the outfit a more edgy look. She also chose to use the yellow in the navy blue skirt as her accent color with the vibrant yellow sweater. Although yellow isn’t your typical fall color, it worked perfectly for the theme of the outfit and reflected the awkward change in weather. Underneath the sweater is a simple white button-up for layering which not only added a nice touch to the outfit theme but is also perfect for those cold walks to your morning classes. In order to counteract the vibrancy of the sweater, this Fashionista wore a dark blue lip which definitely mellowed out the tones. Color-blocking is never easy, but this Fashionista nailed it!
Let’s not forget the choice of shoe. The perspex bootie was nothing less than perfect to top off this outfit. It added just the right amount of sass that kept the outfit current in today’s fashion while still remaining appropriate for the class setting. The choice of shoe for a class setting is extremely important. Not just any heel says “casually going to class”. There are such things as club heels, business heels, casual heels, formal heels etc., so it is vital that you wear casual heels when dressing up your everyday look for as we all know, heels can take any look to another level.
The school girl theme is definitely a hit or miss it can be very easily transformed into a huge fashion no-no, therefore, it is important that you use small details to enhance the look for the sake of your image. For example: the bodycon skirt and perplex booties. Always remember the smallest details make the most significant difference! So take some tips from this Fashionista the next time you’re feeling a little school-girly and want to play with colors and you’ll be ready to slay campus!
