The Pacific Northwest is well known for its dreary days and endless rain, but it was from this gloom that some of history’s greatest musicians emerged. Nirvana, Pearl Jam and countless others developed the unique Seattle sound that eventually started the grunge movement of the late ’80s/early ’90s. Gone were the days of glamorous hair metal bands as teen angst and anarchy took center stage in American pop culture. A few decades later, the PNW is still pumping out great rock bands, with greats like the Foo Fighters, Death Cab For Cutie and Macklemore all calling Seattle home.
Walking in a nearby park while headed to a local concert, I found a Fashionisto who is more than ready for summer and the Vans Warped Tour. The all-black ensemble of his ripped jeans and denim vest sets the tone of this outfit, yet the real style comes from his various accessories. By adding in pops of color from both his bandannas and eclectic mix of bracelets, this Fashionisto proves that the smelly teen spirit first envisioned by the infamous Kurt Cobain is still alive and well. All in all, he makes a loud statement that commands attention both in and out of the mosh pit.
One Simple Change: Worried about going quite so all-out while sitting in class? Stay punk rock and support local artists by just adding in a T-shirt from your favorite band. And don’t forget to check out what shows are coming to your area throughout the summer!
