It’s a rainy September day in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. With lower temperatures and cooler breezes, it’s time to bring out patterned scarves, booties and one of my favorites: capes!
With their re-emergence into the fashion world last fall, capes have been on my mind and in my closet ever since. I love how big and comfortable they are in colder months. It’s comparable to wearing a blanket over your shoulders out in public, which is always good.
One of the best things about the cape craze is the wide variety of styles, shapes and colors. There are so many different types of capes in stores that can be worn to achieve different types of looks. Loose capes can be worn with jeans and loafers for a more relaxed vibe, while more structured capes can be worn as a shell over a structured dress with tights and heels for a more professional and pulled-together ensemble.
This Fashionista paired her plaid cape with a lightweight sweater, ripped black jeans and short suede booties. With this combination, she created a casual look that is versatile and can be worn to many different occasions, dinner with friends, running errands, etc. She added simple accessories like everyday rings, dainty layered necklaces and small coin drop earrings to complete her look.
One Simple Change: To bring this look from casual fall to cold winters, add a black turtleneck underneath and tall over-the-knee boots for extra warmth.
