WHAT TO WEAR: Fashion as Armor

This Fashionista draws inspiration from empowering women like Rihanna and M.I.A who use fashion as a display of their individuality, power, and vision. Her love for glamour, comfort, and street wear is woven together in an effortless cool she encompasses.

Despite the political turmoil that left many women feeling hopeless and deranged last year, this Fashionista is finding a way to look forward, a way to be. Among several creative outlets, she does so through her fashion and it has become her armor. Her closet consists of structurally tailored pieces and edgy interpretations of casual wear. Beyond creating an astute visual, her sartorial choices signify how she wants to be seen by the world and shakes off the assumptions that society makes about women. She does do without being bloated by obvious effort.

Her overall look is supported by a staple streetwear piece—a bomber jacket. She attunes her love for both comfort and glam with limited edition Reeboks from Antonia. She finishes off her look with black, straight-leg trousers from H&M and a dusty rose backpack from ASOS.

She intentionally chose contrasting shades of pink. She considers pink as a symbolic color of unity and strength as seen through Planned Parenthood and the sea of pink knit hats seen at the January 2017 Women’s March.

This Fashionista doesn’t believe in trends, but the nuances that set an individual’s style apart. She always looks chic when going into battle—whether it be at a protest or an exam for her reporting class.
