Sometimes, juggling college and fashion is hard. You have to learn to prioritize quickly when it comes to money, but still, that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to stop being fashionable. Wearing the right clothes at the right time, or even on a random day, makes you iconic on campus, but it’s hard to find choices that fit within a strict budget.
When I met this Fashionista with impeccable style in class, I knew I had to talk to her. Her outfit works for class specifically because none of the pieces are ostentatious, yet they all compliment each other to create an edgy, creative look. What’s more, I was even more surprised to find out where most of her clothes came from: Forever 21. While the brand sometimes—most of the time—has misses (especially when they include unnecessary phrasing on otherwise cute shirts), if you have the patience and the luck, you’ll find some gems.
Take this sweater for instance. Overall, it is a pretty basic piece, but the crop top look and the extra sparkles give it in an extra edge, making it perfect for a simple day in class. Pair that with a leather jacket, especially black, and a stylishly simple choker, and you’re on your way to creating a chic but femme power look. A nice pair of (walkable) boots completes the look, adding a little something extra for people to notice.
When I asked what inspires her style when on a budget, this Fashionista replied, “I’m inspired by a lot of the media that I see online; the Instagram accounts of my favorite clothing stores like Forever 21 and H&M, and beauty gurus like my favorite YouTuber Jenn Im, who looks amazing in so many different styles.” Inspiration is all around us, and if you want to find a particular piece at a more affordable price, don’t be afraid to shop at your local thrift shops or Forever 21. Fashion does not need to break the bank.
