When it comes to finals week, avid Fashionistas and Fashionistos alike commonly miss the mark. Many times, this is a result of the polarized ideals of how finals attire should be assembled. At Ithaca College, it’s not uncommon to see most students walk into the classroom in baggy sweatpants, T-shirts and Birkenstocks. However, there’s also the occasional overdressed Fashionista, Starbucks in hand, who looks like she’s ready for a night on the town. No matter if you find one option preferable to the other, neither are appropriate for finals week.
When preparing an outfit (yes, you should prepare an outfit ahead of time, especially if your final is at 8:00 a.m.), functionality is a top priority. Thinking of debuting that cute mini skirt you just bought? Try again. Classrooms tend to be humid during the spring, and no one likes when their thighs get stuck to the chair. Sweatpants are also a poor option for enduring several hours in a humid classroom. Try a fashionable pair of cargo pants. You’ll appreciate them when you can store all of your test materials in your pockets and ditch your backpack in your dorm.
Though most classrooms have a clock on the wall, you still may want to incorporate a watch into your exam apparel. After all, you never know when you’re going to get stuck behind that outrageously tall kid. Some clocks also run fast/slow. However, many professors still go by their phones or computers when timing an exam. Ensure that you’re on the same page by bringing your own device.. Also, if you opt for a digital watch, make sure that it won’t beep during your exam!
One Simple Change: Have a presentation later that day? Slip into a pair of dress shoes or pumps for an even more professional look.
