Your mom’s jeans aren’t the only article of clothing she should have saved for you! In the fashion industry, we consistently experience trends repeating history. Back in November 2016, I predicted tube tops would be coming back. Can you guess what was one of summer 2017’s biggest trends? That’s right: tube tops! From early 2016 we saw overalls and vintage sneaker brands cycling back into the scene. My local Urban Outfitters has become a Rachel Green-inspired closet. Since then, off-the-shoulder tops, mules, frayed denim, high-waisted jeans, and boldly patterned pieces have returned. Looking to save money this year? Shop through your mom’s closet instead!
Mules
For work or for play, mules are a great addition to your closet. They’re effortless, classy, and can be worn with your jeans or dress. Additionally, you can wear mules around the office or out with your friends. Mules are great for college gals who are in the process of interviewing and interning. Most of all, the heel isn’t high enough to kill your feet while you wear them, but it is tall enough to elevate any look.
Denim
Denim continues to be a staple piece throughout generations. Jackets, jeans, or even hats, denim will never go out of style. While high-waisted jeans are comfortable and versatile, they are also practical. Pair them with a cropped turtleneck, graphic T-shirt, or loose blouse. No matter the occasion, you are guaranteed to pull off any look. Sort through your mom or dad’s closet for an old denim jacket or shirt because they make the best layering tops for any outfit. If you’re looking for frayed ankle denim, try rummaging through a local thrift store for an easy DIY project.
Patterns
Finally, incorporate a pattern piece into your daily look because it’s bound to get attention and it’s effortless to wear. I don’t mean your everyday stripes either. Try adding in a brocade or paisley item to your wardrobe for diversity. While patterns are noticeable, they’re not a distraction. Furthermore, brocade patterns can be found on your favorite fall bootie. How cute to dress up your jeans for class or your internship?!
