Denim has been a staple in everyone’s wardrobe for as long as I can remember. Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears rocked the red carpet in their denim ensembles back in 2001 for the American Music Awards and Jennifer Lopez has been spotted in a Canadian tuxedo (jeans with a denim shirt) more than once.
Denim is immediately recognizable all around the globe. It’s worn by farmers out in the fields and by models on the runway every season. There’s nothing better than finding the perfect denim piece and breaking it in to perfection. Karen Walker knows how much denim is loved around the world and has consistently shown it in her shows. Her last runway, for fall 2015, was 1970s-inspired and denim was used for skirts, dresses and, of course, high-waisted jeans. In her spring 2015 show, she used the blue fabric in a more modern way. Ruffled denim was shown on dresses and jackets, giving this well-known fabric an entirely new twist.
Karen Walker isn’t the only designer sending models strutting down the runway in denim. J.Crew has been in on the trend as well. J.Crew showed their denim in more classic ways. Jeans were shown along with the classic denim button-down like the one that this Fashionista is wearing. They layered the shirts with jumpsuits and coats, which is perfect for the winter weather on northern college campuses.
This Fashionista layered her denim with a black blazer and a fabulous Michael Kors hooded coat. She set off her outfit with a black and gold necklace and a pair of leopard print slip-ons. This outfit is super cute, but also comfy enough to enjoy a long night relaxing and grabbing dinner with friends.
One Simple Change: If you’ve got dinner with your special someone instead of with friends, throw on a skater skirt and some booties to give you that extra oomph for date night.
