WHAT TO WEAR: Internship

Mark Twain once said, “The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.”

While summer may have arrived in most parts of the country, my favorite city by the bay continues to be trapped in winter by our infamous fog. In addition to fog, San Francisco holds a lot of charm in it’s architecture, history, music and style. No two stylish people are alike in SF, and I caught this Fashionista on her lunch break demonstrating her own take on business casual.

The preppy look is classic and works in virtually every work environment. I was drawn in to this look by the perfect balance of punchy colors, bold pattern and classic style that she wraps into her outfit. The focal element of this look is definitely the navy and white capri pants, highlighted by the color block of pink neon at the base of the blouse. This Fashionista admitted to me that she has these pants in many colors, splurging for them every time Lily Pulitzer has a sale. She continues with the navy theme with her classic cardigan, comfy yet chic flats and a forever useful Longchamp tote.

The gold accent pieces are what give this outfit an extra boost of class and glamour. From the delicate pearl earrings to the Tory Burch logo on her flats, the glint of gold makes this Fashionista shine. Monograms are a hallmark of the preppy look, and this Fashionista wears hers everyday around her neck on a delicate gold chain. She told me that all her jewelry is centered around a pearl and gold theme, a combination both beautiful and timeless.

One Simple Change: This look could also easily be dressed down for a more informal occasion. Swap out the flats for something more casual like summery sandals or the classic low-top white Converse. Once your footwear is sorted, change up the top for a more relaxed blouse such as a clean cut white linen top or even a white tank top and a light wash jean jacket. Just like our old friend the mullet, this ‘one simple change’ says to me: business in the front, party in the back.
