Welcome back Fashionistas and Fashionistos! Summer is the perfect season to score your dream internship since we get a break from the heavy loads of homework assigned by our professors. Whether you’re interning at a fashion magazine, an accounting firm or even a video producing company, it’s important to dress to impress. Being in the fashion industry, I’ve noticed it is more acceptable for one to dress however they please to a certain extent. Although industries outside of fashion may have to dress on the more professional side (suits, blazers, dress pants, etc.) that can’t stop a Fashionista or Fashionisto from adding touches of trendiness to their everyday work attire. Don’t be afraid to spice it up a little!
Having a strict dress code should not stop you from standing out and looking fabulous. There are many ways to alter a professional outfit to make it more fashionable. By adding colors and prints to a work outfit helps make it more youthful and fun. Does your job require you to wear a blazer and dress pants? Simply add a dressy tank top:Â the color-block really brings more personality to the typical black blazer, white shirt, black slacks outfit. Another option is to let the blazer do the talking, pair a simple professional outfit with a colored or printed blazer.
This Fashionista was on the platform of the Long Island Railroad when I spotted the cute pop of color in her work attire. Her dressy midi skirt made it quite clear to me that she was either going to work or to an internship. This is an example of how you can still go to work while still being trendy. By pairing her skirt with a bright colored dressy top, her look was instantly brightened! Her necklace was the perfect add-on, a subtle statement pulling together the perfect outfit for a day at her internship. She is sporting a Daniel Wellington watch, which has a very minimalistic face that also works as a subtle accessory. Watches are essential; we all need to know when it’s time for lunch!
One Simple Change: Have dinner plans after a long day of interning? Just throw on a pair of printed shorts, tuck the front of the tank in the shorts and you’re ready to chow down a well deserved dinner!
