WHAT TO WEAR: Music Festival

Even though classes for the fall semester have begun, there is nothing stopping the numerous students at the University of Arkansas from attending music festivals and concerts nearby, such as Backwoods Music Festival in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Mad Decent Block Party in Kansas City, Missouri. Festival fashion is a time for Fashionistas/os to be fun and expressive in their style, perhaps to reflect their favorite artists or maybe just to beat the heat while still looking fabulous.

Although festival fashion can sometimes be outlandish and even offensive, this Fashionista’s outfit receives a major stamp of approval from me. Rather than opting for the predictable, yet reliable pairing of denim cut-off shorts with a top, this Fashionista goes with a figure-flattering, comfortable and breathable black slip dress. It’s perfect for the transitional and unpredictable weather patterns in the Midwest during September as it’s easy to throw on a second layer, even if it were a vintage destroyed graphic T-shirt or a light cardigan. Standing out against the sea of other concert-goers, this slip dress is easy to elevate with the various accessories she is wearing with her all-black ensemble.

The black hat and black velvet cross-body purse are practical for her outfit at an outdoor concert venue where she can protect her hair and skin from the sun and give her a cool edge to her feminine slip dress. The bag is also just large enough that she can fit her essential items inside it, without it affecting her ability to have fun and dance in the crowd. Finally, her sunglasses, shoes and jewelry add a subtle glint of metallic shine to her outfit to create an eye-catching outfit with a distinct edgy and fun vibe.

To recreate this look, find a slip dress that you feel comfortable and beautiful in, pair it with a wide-brimmed hat, metallic sunnies, a cross-body bag, and metallic-detailed booties!
