If my seventh grade self were to look at me now, I wouldn’t believe my own eyes. Skinny jeans were the one item that defined my 6th-12th grade style—something about them had always appealed to me. Whether it be cultural influences, or the fact that I had always been tiny compared to everyone else and wearing anything else had me feeling like I was swimming in fabric, my skinny jeans were my safety blanket. But, everything must come to an end. It wasn’t until college that I began to branch out and experiment with other shapes and silhouettes—my new favorite being culottes, just FYI.
For my first street style post, who else would I choose aside from my fashion major best friend? I met this Fashionista online, through our school’s random roommate assignment program and have never met someone more like me. I gained a roommate and a best friend. What I love most about us is our taste in clothing—we love and own almost all of the exact same pieces, but style them completely differently. I asked this Fashionista what goes through her mind when planning an outfit. She put it simply as, “I ask myself what I can wear to both make me feel badass, while looking like I just waltzed out of the seventies?”
Much like myself, her personal style is influenced by Jane Birkin, Alexa Chung, Karl Lagerfeld and Audrey Hepburn. For this outfit specifically, this Fashionista’s incorporation of classic, simple colors, balances out the outgoing lower silhouette. She remains comfy for class in some chunky black sandals. Perfecto.
