Something that I have always found interesting in fashion, is the industry’s ability to resurrect old ideas and seamlessly turn something old into something new and attention-grabbing. There is something beautiful, a certain je ne sais quoi, about the creativity it takes in order to generate something exciting and never before seen from past sartorial works. The incorporation of old and new blending together to make something electrifying.
Today, we see this concept a lot in fashion. In recent seasons past, designers have seemed to put a focus on reviving trends and ideas from the ’70s and ’90s. For spring 2017, I’ve noticed a magnitude of ’80s odes incorporated into the scene. Whether it was through Balenciaga’s harsh color blocking, shoulder pads, retro silhouettes from Rodarte and Saint Laurent respectively, or just the general emphasis of elaborate patterns on the runways and streets alike, the inspiration has been unmistakable.
This Fashionista proves herself to be largely on the same wavelength as many of the big names in fashion. Wearing a vintage, beaded, printed top and a pair of vintage Levi’s 501 shorts, she has her own take on the current spring trends. She brought a little bit of modern flair into the look by creatively tying a silk scarf around her wrist, rocking chunky heels, and accessorizing with flashy jewelry. In this outfit, she is not only prepared to take on her classes for the day, but she’s also ready to rock out to some Madonna with her equally as ’80s obsessed girlfriends.
