WHAT TO WEAR: Spring

Happy March everybody! While I sit on the couch and read all the magazine articles about how the midi skirt is the must-have piece this spring, I cannot help but look out the window and gaze at the snow and sleet still falling in temperatures flirting around freezing point. Spring in Canada can be reluctantly summed up with three things: sun, warmth, only to devastatingly wake up to snowy sidewalks the next morning. How does one dress stylishly in this kind of weather without freezing one’s calves off? I was walking by our varsity stadium on campus one day when I bumped into someone who obviously had the answer to my questions.

Behold, a long coat that carries the perfect shade of blush that elevates our spirits from all of winter’s heaviness! It looks elegant and keeps warm when buttoned, and is chic and breezy when unbuttoned; just perfect for the bizarre weather transitions we encounter. Do you see the snow photobombing some of the pictures? I wasn’t kidding about the weather throwing tantrums! I also admire this Fashionista, because with all the upcoming midterms and paper deadlines that are overshadowing us right now, she’s still able to fit her books in a cute little leather backpack. Everything else remains fairly monochromatic. The striped blouse and black slacks are still considered business casual when paired with a pair of fresh sneakers.

Thanks to this Fashionista’s clever play of light and dark colors, along with her juxtaposition of warm and breezy, it doesn’t feel like winter in my heart anymore. I hope everyone of you stylish readers will also make the most out of the warmer season, in regards to your wardrobe, and in all things.

One Simple Change: Maybe you’ve sent in all your summer job applications already, and now it’s hiring season! If you have an interview in the middle of the day, this outfit is ideal, as it avoids looking out of place both in class and at the interview. Just swap the sneakers for a pair of black flats for a more structured and professional look.
