Beaches, ice cream, longer days, floral patterns and bright colors equal the perfect idea of summer. But we all know that summer isn’t always innocent and simple pastels. Summer is the perfect time to bring back black. In the dead heat of Phoenix, few Fashionista/os think about wearing a color that will draw even more heat towards them; this Fashionista proves that black is and always will be the new black.
You don’t have to leave your favorite winter or fall colors behind, especially darker colors such as black. This Fashionista rocks an edgy look and color by wearing a black romper and a silver belt to not only lighten, but to cool off this “bad-girl” look (even though it is hotter than hot). I can’t blame this Fashionista for still wanting to wear black, not only is it a safe color that can be dressed up or down with the addition or subtraction of accessories, but it is a timeless and always flattering choice. Clearly, this Fashionista knows how to work her angles and catch the perfect light with western inspired bangles and bolo ties. One of the major issues that we Phoenicians battle is sun exposure; with temperatures of 110º and higher, going outside means lathering up with sunscreen and shielding ourselves from the sun. It also gives us an excuse to wear some pretty rad hats and shades. Like this Fashionista, many Phoenicians wear hats that seem to be ready for a festival or a cool place to call home. Not only do all of these accessories make this Fashionista’s outfit come together, but they all add up to make the perfect outfit for any summer fling. Forget the popsicles and pastels, I’ll do bad-ass and black.
One Simple Change: If you’re traveling and don’t feel like going full-on edgy and grunge, pair a black romper with layered, delicate gold chains, some bright colored or floral printed flats and a pastel bag for a brighter or more mature look.
