It is finally football season here at the University of South Carolina, and we love our Gamecocks! Down here in the Southeastern Conference, we take our college football very seriously, as well as our tailgating. I’m from Boston and growing up going to Patriots games the usual attire is a pair of jeans, a Pats sweatshirt and earmuffs or a hat if the chilly, fall weather so calls for it. But, now I’m here in the South where the students attend the tailgates and games dressed to the nines. Girls wear cute, little sundresses (because it’s still very hot down here) often paired with cowboy boots and guys are expected to wear nice shorts and a collared shirt. I must say, I love it! I’ll take any opportunity to dress up, just like this game day Fashionista has.
She has decided to wear a fit-and-flare sundress in USC’s school colors: garnet and black. The fun and flirty silhouette really emphasizes her waist while offering a cool and playful solution to a long day of tailgating in the hot South Carolina sun. The open back is the best part of this look! It definitely helps to keep things cool and is an awesome detail to make the dress stand out. When every girl at a huge, southern university is wearing a black or garnet sundress, fun little details like this are key. Plus, the bow is Gamecock black, which matches her shoes.
Important to a day full of standing (because of course we never sit down during a game) this Fashionista has made a smart and trendy decision by wearing black Converse. They match her dress and look laid-back and cute while being a very sensible choice for corn hole tournaments or jumping in the bleachers.
To accessorize, she has stuck with simple hoop earrings for a classy look, this is the SEC remember? Also, by pulling her hair back she has avoided the potential of a hair disaster from spending the whole day outside in the humidity where the threats of frizz and sweat and tangles are very real. Furthermore, she has opted for minimal makeup and a natural look, which is the best way to go for such an occasion. No doubt, this Fashionista’s tailgating and football game look is on point! Keep it simple, fun and just a lil’ dressy.
One Simple Change: Are you at a school where those night games might get a little chilly? Easy fix: bring a lightweight cardigan to throw on! It will cover your shoulders and open back but will still be the perfect mix of dressy-casual to go with your outfit.
